Research and testing using animals

Question: Is it permissible to perform research (and testing) upon animals for medical and medicinal advancement?
Response:
I don't see any harm in this (based) upon the generality of His (Subhaanahu
wa Ta'aala) saying:
{He it is Who created for you all that is on earth}, [Soorah al-Baqarah, Aayah 29]
However, it is obligatory to undertake the simplest route in testing and the furthest away from causing suffering to the animals.
