Visiting
non-Muslim countries
Question:
Question: Visiting countries of disbelief is prohibited, except
if there is a good reason to do so. However, if there are
Muslim minorities there which are organised and grouped together
in such a way that they resemble a separate society living
within the non-Muslim society, is it permitted for me to visit
them for the Sake of Allaah, teach them and do business with
them even though they are in the lands of the disbelievers?
Response:
There is no objection to travelling to countries of disbelief
in which there are Muslim minority communities in order to
support and help those Muslims and to see how they are.
However, whomever goes should have knowledge, in order to
defend himself and his religion from doubts and uncertainty
and the desires of the self. He might travel to these countries
of disbelief for the sake of his Muslim brothers who are living
there but have insufficient knowledge to respond to specious
arguments and proof, and as a result doubts and uncertainty
enter his heart. His faith in Allaah and adherence to Islaam
may be weak and as a result he succumbs to the desires of
the self. Therefore, if a person has sound knowledge and strong
adherence to Islaam and he goes to these countries in order
to visit his Muslim brothers there, then there is no objection
to this. In fact, it might be imperative for him to go, in
order to help and support them and to show them that they
have brothers elsewhere.
