Official Decision and Announcement of the High Judiciary Council of Saudi Arabia...

CORRECTION: 'Eed al-Adhaa on Thursday 20 January 2005...

The Standing on Arafat which marks the climax of Hajj will this year fall on Wednesday, January 19 (9 Dhul-Hijjah), and not on Thursday, January 20 as announced earlier (below). Accordingly, Eid al-Adhaa (the feast of sacrifice) will be celebrated on Thursday, January 20.

A statement by the Supreme Judiciary Council carried by the Saudi Press Agency yesterday said two men have come forward declaring they have sighted the new moon after sunset on Monday, January 10, and notified the judge who recommended them to the council as trustworthy.

..........

Just a short time ago, Fatwa-Online was informed of the official decision and announcement of the High Judiciary Council of Saudi Arabia that since the moon of Dhul-Hijjah was not sighted here in Saudi Arabia, we shall be completing thirty (30) days of Dhul-Qi'dah, inshaa.-Allaah.

Subsequently, 1 Dhul-Hijjah will be tomorrow, Wednesday 12 January 2005, and the Muslims performing Hajj will be in 'Arafah on Thursday 20 January (9 Dhul-Hijjah ), and the Muslim Ummah shall be celebrating 'Eed al-Adhaa on Friday 21 January 2005, (10 Dhul-Hijjah 1423), inshaa.-Allaah.

May Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala) accept all our worship for His Sake only, and may He further bless us all with forgiveness and adherence to the Qur.aan and the authentic Sunnah as understood by the best of generations, namely the Sahaabah, the Taabi'oon and the Atbaa' at-Taabi'een, in short, the pious predecessors, inshaa.-Allaah:

Zahdam ibn Mudrab narrated: I heard 'Imraan ibn Husayn saying: The Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) said:

((The best people are those living in my generation, then those coming after them, and then those coming after (the second generation).)), [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree, 3/219];

'Abdullaah ibn Mas'ood (radhi-yallaahu 'anhu) narrated: The Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) said:

((The people of my generation are the best, then those who follow them, and then those who follow the latter)), [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree, 3/820];

'Aa.ishah (radhi-yallaahu 'anhaa) narrated that: A person asked Allaah's Apostle (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) as to who amongst the people were the best. He said:

((Of the generation to which I belong, then of the second generation (generation adjacent to my generation), then of the third generation (generation adjacent to the second generation).)), [Saheeh Muslim 6159].
